Hey, this is Gustavo. I’m a data scientist at a small, yet ambitious, startup in Silicon Valley.
I graduated summa cum laude as a software engineer, after a brief period in the banking industry, I moved to Saudi Arabia to pursue higher education at KAUST. I was awarded two degrees, an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Computer Science. My doctoral dissertation is about high-performance linear solvers based on hierarchical matrices with applications to the oil and gas industry. My latest academic position was as a postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
I have authored conference and journal papers, patents, and technical reports, some of them in collaboration with industry partners such as Saudi Aramco, Boeing, and CISCO. My main contribution to open-source is to the U.S. Department of Energy math library STRUMPACK. My latest research lies at the intersection of scalable algorithms and machine learning.
The three things I am most passionate about are artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning.
I love to connect with new people and be useful whenever I can, feel free to say hello :-) at @gustavoChavezCS.
